What is Vitreoretinal Disease

Vitreoretinal refers to two parts of the eye, the vitreous and the retina. The vitreous is the clear gel-like substance that fills the eye. The retina is the delicate layer of tissue in the back of the eye that focuses and collects the light that enters your eye. Both of these structures must be working properly to be able to see. In the United States, most vision loss is caused by diseases and disorders that affect this area of the eye. Our physicians treat the various vitreoretinal diseases and disorders that can develop such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, and macular holes.

When you visit our practice, the physician and his assistant will clearly explain your particular condition. In addition, we will give you detailed written information to take home about your treatment and prognosis.
