About Our Vitroretinal Practice
In 1999, two prominent specialty eye groups, Retina Associates of East Tennessee,
P.C. and Retina Associates, P.C. of Chattanooga, joined forces to become Southeastern
Retina Associates, P.C. (SERA). The new medical practice assembled a dedicated group
of experienced specialists to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic,
and surgical care for patients with vitreoretinal diseases and disorders.
The physicians in the group are John Hoskins, M.D.,
Randall Funderburk, M.D.,

O.D. is our affiliated Low Vision Specialist.
Our primary purpose is to provide the highest quality of medical care possible,
with each patient's needs as top priority. Our professional staff is trained to
treat each patient with dignity, respect, kindness, and courtesy. Patient care is
available 24-hours a day 365-days a year. In order to offer this high level of service,
you may receive treatment from more than one of our physicians.
Most patients are referred to us by another physician or eye doctor. Your referring
doctor will be kept informed about your treatment and your progress. Since many
insurance plans now require a referral from a family physician or other doctor,
we may ask you to help obtain this authorization.
Our physicians are specially trained medical doctors as well as skilled surgeons
in the field of retinal and vitreous ophthalmology. They have met all of the stringent
requirements for medical school, internship, ophthalmology residency, vitreoretinal
fellowship, and state licensure. All are board certified or board eligible by the
American Board of Ophthalmology. Their credentials include academic achievements,
faculty positions, and clinical professorships.
Our doctors are members of numerous professional societies, including the American
Medical Association, The Tennessee Medical Association, and the American Academy
of Ophthalmology. Individually, they actively belong to additional community and
professional groups.
